- College Corner: Budget-Friendly Facial
Facials are heavenly and so necessary for helping keep skin hydrated and young. But, they are certainly not budget-friendly. Don’t fret, we’ve got the tips for how you can raid your toiletries cabinet and fridge for everything you need for an at home facial that’ll leave your face soft and bright. Here’s the plan:
First, start with an avocado, oatmeal and honey mask to hydrate and exfoliate, balance and calm dry, sensitive skin. To make and apply the mask:
- Cleanse your face as you normally would;
- Grab a ripe avocado, two tablespoons of raw honey and a one fourth of a cup of oatmeal;
- Mix all three ingredients until smooth;
- Apply the mixture all over your face with your hands and massage the mask in a circular motion;
- Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes;
- Rinse!
One of our readers, Krystal Aris, from Syracuse University, absolutely lives by this fantastic mask. She says, “I love that this mask is a two for one, a face a mask and a face scrub.”
After you’re done exfoliating, your next step is to apply a mask that is perfect for smoothing, tightening pores, and getting rid of blackheads and dead skin cells. To make and apply this mask:
- Check your fridge for a carton of eggs. Grab one or two for great face mask that is super nourishing to the skin;
- Separate the eggs from the yolk;
- Simply whisk the egg whites until they begin to froth;
- Apply the frothy egg whites to your face with your fingers or a clean make-up brush;
- Cover your face with facial tissues and apply another coat of egg whites on top of the tissues;
- Leave on for 15-25 minutes, or until the egg whites harden;
- Finally, remove the facial tissues and rinse your face and moisturize as usual. That’s it!
This simple mask has been described as a short-term facelift and Khalia Murray, from Spelman College, totally loves it. She says, “Living on a budget, this is the best way for me to get my weekly facial.”
So there, you have it…two inexpensive, yet very effective facemasks for an at-home facial that is to die for! Let us know if you have any other budget-friendly masks or at-home facial rituals that you swear by.
