Our team was super excited to support our girl Nakia Thomas at her launch party for StyleChile.com.  Nakia asked us to be on hand to beautify the models and some of the guests.  We had a great night, but you just never know what to expect in beauty and fashion in NYC!  Here’s a sneak peek into what it looked like behind the scenes.

5:00 pm: Our team arrives at our hotel.  We’re running behind schedule because getting into the city is a nightmare!

5:15 pm: The team gets to work getting Zyn Beauty owners, Zakiya and Nirvana, camera ready.  While we usually take a back seat at most events, this time, we need to be ready for anything…being on camera for the world to see means the team has to make sure we are on point!!!

5:45 pm: The team puts on the finishing touches and we dash out of the door in search of a couple taxis to get us to the event.

6:15 pm: It’s FREEZING, the team is lugging all of our beauty equipment, and we’re STILL looking for taxis.  Apparently, we missed the memo that it would be virtually impossible to find a cab or get an Uber during rush hour, in the dead of winter.

6:30 pm: After sprinting two blocks and throwing a few bows, we finally get everyone into a car and we’re on our way.

7:15 pm:  We made it with moments to spare!! We typically have our team to any event early, but navigating the New York streets was CRAZY, and we are just glad to be there in time to get the models ready for Nakia to represent!

7:30 pm: We are in full swing, doing our thing, beating faces and curling hair. We are all having a blast.  The music is pumping and the team is making magic happen in a small space in the basement of the venue.  We are a bit cramped but the lighting is great and our team loves the artistry of what they do, no matter the space!

8:00 pm:  Models and guests are ready for their close-ups, so we head upstairs.  The venue, Stephen F, a chic clothing studio in the trendy Meat Packing District, is spectacular.  The event planner, Yaz, from Pop Event Planning, has brought Nakia’s fashionable vision to life.  We all take a deep breath and sip on the delicious signature cocktails.  The hors d’oeuvres being passed around are amazing, but we only sneak a few when we are sure the cameras weren’t looking!  (Needless to say, we found the closest diner at the end of the night!)

8:15 pm – 10:00 pm: The “reality” of Reality TV unfolds right before our eyes. So much happens in less than 2 hours that our heads are spinning!!!  (Did Wendy really just say that to Nakia!?!?! Is Nakia going to keep her cool!?!)

10:15 pm: And scene! It’s a wrap.  We pack up, so proud of our girls Nakia and Kelly, and head out on the town.  This hair and makeup needs to be seen!  But we learned our lesson; this time, we ordered our Ubers in advance.
